Apply for support
Applying is free and takes about 20 minutes. Apply yourself, or through a referral partner such as an advice centre, social worker or housing officer.
We will never ask you for a fee, a "processing charge", your online banking password, or a payment to release a grant. If anyone contacts you claiming to be from us and asks for money, it is a scam. Report it here.
Who can apply
Anyone aged 18 or over living in the United States or the United Kingdom can apply. There is no fixed income cut-off: a caseworker looks at your whole situation and prioritises households on low incomes or in crisis.
The basics
- Aged 18 or over and living in the US or UK
- Facing a cost you cannot meet from your own resources
- One award per household every 12 months
- Free to apply, and always confidential
What strengthens an application
- A referral from an advice centre, school, sports club, social worker or housing officer
- A quote or bill for the cost you need help with
- Proof of income or benefits, if you have it to hand
- Telling us if the situation is urgent

Common questions
Does it cost anything to apply?
No. Applying is completely free. We never charge fees at any stage, and we never ask for payment to "release" or "unlock" a grant.
Is there an income limit?
No fixed limit. We prioritise households on low incomes or facing a crisis, and caseworkers take housing costs, disability-related expenses and family size into account.
Do I need to be a citizen?
No. You need to be resident in the UK or US. Immigration status does not affect eligibility, and we do not share application data with immigration authorities.
Can I apply on behalf of someone else?
Yes, with their consent. Referral partners regularly apply on behalf of clients. Enter your organisation in the referral field.
How is the money paid?
Wherever possible we pay the supplier, contractor, landlord or utility directly. Where a payment must go to you, we pay by bank transfer to an account in your name after identity checks.
What if my application is refused?
We will explain why. You can ask for a review within 28 days, carried out by a different caseworker and a member of the Grants Committee.
Will you tell anyone I applied?
No. Your application is confidential. We share information only with your explicit consent, where required by law, or to protect someone from serious harm under our safeguarding policy.
